PRESS RELEASE
On Saturday, March 16, 2002, the Upper Makefield Township EAC received the 2002 EAC Achievement Award for its Land Application System to Facilitate Groundwater Recharge of Tertiary-treated Sewage Effluent.

Pictured above, from right to left, are:
Andrew McElwaine, President of PA Environmental Council, Bud Baldwin, Upper Makefield EAC, Robert West, Chairperson of Upper Makefield EAC, and Joseph Feola, Regional Director of PA DEP (front row) and Don Gephart, Recreation and Parks Advisory, DCNR and Scott Petri, Special Counsel to Upper Makefield Township (back row)
The governor’s award, the second received by Upper Makefield Township, is the result of efforts by representatives of Upper Makefield Township to replenish the acquifier in conjunction with the approval of the Arbours at Washington Crossing, an age-qualified community. The approval of the Arbours project requires that the existing Heritage Hills plant be expanded, waste water emanating from the plant for the Arbours and Heritage Hills be treated to tertiary standards, and allowed to recharge into the ground, thereby replenishing ground water.
As part of the Award, the Upper Makefield Township EAC received a check for $500.00.
